Trivia

In March of 1839 Joseph Taylor built a small log cabin for his family on Squirrel Creek in what would become Honey Creek Township. He died shortly thereafter, and was the subject of the first known funeral held in Howard County.

Annual Campaign

In 2008 the HCHS implemented an annual end-of-the-year fundraising campaign. Due to the generosity of our donors, HCHS has raised approximately $100,000 for maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and grounds, preservation and expansion of the collection, and strengthening of services to the community through history-related programs.

In 2011 the annual campaign theme is "The Past Fuels the Future" and the goal is to raise $45,000 to support the mission of the society. James Long, a member of the historical Society, gave the lead gift with a generous donation of $10,000. In addition, NIPSCO formally known as Kokomo Gas and Fuel will be our corporate sponsor and has donated $3,000 to help "Fuel our Future."

This years Christmas ornament will be a replica of the Kokomo Gas Tower landmark. Proceeds from the ornaments will go toward the campaign goal. The ornaments are available at the museum gift shop for $20.00 each and there are only 250 available.

Jeff Watson, owner of J Watson Creations has made a beautiful one of a kind pendent with pieces from the Kokomo Gas Tower. If you would like to purchase a 1 in 300 chance to win this one-of-a kind pendent, just call the historical society at (765)452-4314.

Please consider making a donation to the Howard County Historical Society by December 31, 2011.
